Living WIth Murals

Some spaces call for more than standard paint. Murals, custom finishes, and integrated visual elements can help create atmosphere, reinforce identity, guide customer experience, or simply make a space feel more intentional and memorable. At Trade Waters, mural and creative development projects are approached through a collaborative process that balances artistic direction with real-world planning, durability, and integration into the surrounding environment.

Every project begins with understanding the purpose of the space and the goals behind the work. In some cases, clients arrive with a fully developed vision, brand standards, or completed artwork. In others, the process begins with only a general idea, inspiration images, or a desired feeling for the environment. The role of the process is to help organize those ideas into a clear creative direction that fits the architecture, materials, lighting, scale, and overall use of the space.

Unlike standalone artwork created in isolation, environmental artwork and mural work must function within active residential, commercial, or public environments. That means considering how the work interacts with traffic flow, viewing distances, lighting conditions, surrounding finishes, existing branding, and the long-term wear of the surface itself. Careful planning, mockups, material selection, surface preparation, and coordination all play an important role in creating work that feels integrated rather than simply applied onto a wall.

Whether the project involves a single feature wall, large-scale exterior mural, branded commercial installation, custom painted environment, or multi-space art program, the focus remains on creating visually cohesive work while maintaining professionalism, organization, and clear communication throughout the process. Just as important as the final artwork is the experience of getting there—collaborative planning, realistic timelines, organized execution, and thoughtful integration into the broader project environment.

The Process

We begin with a conversation to understand your goals, the space, and how our services will support the overall environment. In addition to comprehensive interior and exterior painting and finish work, our custom art development talents allow for a creative approach across all surfaces. Whether you’re working from your own designs, mood boards, or completed plans, this step establishes a clear and aligned creative direction.

Concepts are developed specifically for your project, informed by the architecture, materials, and intended use of the space. Clear visual proposals are provided and refined through collaboration until the direction is fully resolved.

We work closely with our clients to ensure seamless integration—reviewing wall conditions, site challenges, permits are in place, timelines, and technical requirements so the work aligns with the broader project schedule. Regardless of the size of the mural we work with our clients to make sure the project goes smoothly.

Final artwork, design systems, painted surfaces, signage elements, and installed graphics are executed with careful attention to scale, material performance, spatial integration, visibility, and long-term durability. Every detail is refined to ensure the finished work not only functions within the environment, but elevates the overall experience of the space.

Final walkthroughs are completed with the client to ensure every detail meets the project vision and installation standards. Protective clear coats and finishing systems are applied as needed to support long-term durability, color retention, and environmental protection. The site is fully cleaned and prepared for turnover, and professional photography is captured to document the completed work within the finished space.
